DESCRIPTION:Atlanta Funk Society is a Funk band from Atlanta\, GA\, playing classic hits from the ’60s\, ’70s and ’80s\, including everything from “Superbad” by James Brown\, to “Whatcha Gonna Do For Me” by Chaka Kahn.  \nStarted in the summer of 2010\, the Atlanta Funk Society brought together a collection of some of the best musicians Atlanta had to offer. Founding members guitarist and vocalist Rob Lane (the Apostles) and bass player Kevin Scott (Col. Bruce Hampton\, and others too numerous to mention) wanted to fill the need for a hard hitting funk band playing classic hits from the 60’s\, 70’s and 80’s.  \nTheir first call was to Jonathan Lloyd(Cadillac Jones\, Lloyds Rocksteady Review)\, local trombone player and vocalist to put together the horn section which has included Deniz Felder\, Jason Collier\, Jon Marett (Willie Nelson\, Waylon Jennings\, OutKast\, Goodie Mob)\, Prof. Eric Fontaine (just about every great band in Atlanta)\, and Taylor Kennedy (Soulphonics\, Blair Crimmins). Next to join were guitarist Nick Johnson(Last Waltz Ensemble\, Pharoh Gummitt) and drummer Duane Trucks(Derek Trucks\, Pharoh Gummit) lending their unrivaled musicianship to the group. The keyboards were manned by Florida transplant and first call pianist Nick Rosen. Scotty Bryan (Cinetrope\, 3052 dub Collective) stepped up the bands’ vibe with the addition of percussion.  \nThe next critical piece was a female vocalist\, and after a long search\, Michelle Marshall came into the fold and showed what was up. SUMMARY:Bottomless Mimosa Brunch w/ The Tray Dahl Jazz Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Purists Beware! Tray Dahl & The Jugtime Ragband is not jug band\, ragtime\, or dixieland. It is an energetic amalgamation of all three immersed in an early New Orleans sound with a style that also incorporates a little blues\, a bit of swing\, and some old time gospel tones. We get people’s feet stomping in a roaring twenties kind of way. Our sound has been described by many as “speakeasy” or “prohibition era” music. Our songs match the early New Orleans jazz/blues instrumentation combo of tenor banjo and trumpet with upbeat dixieland and swing tempos underlying a heavy dose of powerful 1920’s inspired vocals stylistically akin to Bessie Smith\, Clara Smith\, and Louis Armstrong. Our main influences include Louis Armstrong and the Boswell Sisters. We play songs composed by some of the best songwriters from the early and mid-twentieth century alongside our original tunes which are heavily influenced by their work. Our songwriting style consists of writing stories that take listeners back in time through the experiences of our main characters whose tales\, so far\, have taken place anywhere from the 1860’s to 1930’s. \nRESERVATION INFO: \nTickets are not available for FREE shows. Somewhere in the definition\, Michael Magno inherited the drive to become a serious singer/songwriter. Spoon-fed his influences by radio-loving parents\, Michael wrote his first song at age 14 and never looked back. By today’s standards\, you can compare him to such contemporaries as Bruno Mars and OneRepublic\, with a smooth vocal reminiscent of Sting or Marvin Gaye. In 1998\, the Florida native transplanted to Atlanta and began performing his originals solo acoustic or with the his band\, MAGNO. He quickly gained popularity at such venues as Eddie’s Attic\, Smith’s Olde Bar and other music rooms around Atlanta. His sound is an organic blend of rock and soul\, with an undeniable pop sensibility. Drawing inspiration from coffee and 80’s radio\, Magno’s songs are a personal invite into familiarity. His songs convey broad takes on love and hope\, while letting his listeners embrace the lyrics in their own singularity. We’re not there to just play a couple of songs\, provide a distraction\, and leave; our goal is to form the kinds of meaningful relationships that it takes to help kids deal with their illnesses through creativity. \nIn addition to hospital performances\, we provide opportunities for\nsongwriting and recording to give kids a chance to put their\nexperiences into words and feel a sense of accomplishment. This year\, we’ll be taking that work one step further by launching a one-on-one music mentorship program that will be available to kids both in and out of the hospital. DESCRIPTION:Dusty Roads is a high-energy Georgia-grown Americana band\, formed by Atlanta based musician\, J.L. Mickelson.  When you’re at a Dusty Roads show\, expect to hear influences of the legends of country and bluegrass music\, such as Merle Haggard\, Flatt & Scruggs\, Willie Nelson\, Buck Owens\, and Bill Monroe.  You can also expect sprinklings of songs and sounds of the great writers and musicians from across the globe and halls of time\, like Django Earnhardt\, Duke Ellington\, and Irving Berlin.  “Come take a trip\, down that long\, dusty road”. \nComprised of some of the Southeast regions finest pickers and singers\, the band is ever evolving and growing.  They’re constantly searching for that sound\, that lick\, that twangy hook that sinks deep into the listener’s soul and pulls them into the unfolding story of each song.  Dusty Roads cherishes the purity of silvery steel strings ringing together harmoniously.  The band champions comradery\, respect for the craft of their instruments\, and finely constructed songs that feel as if they soar down from the mountaintop to resonate the listener’s heart-strings. \n“We came here with one purpose\, to have a blast playing and performing live acoustic music”- J.L. Like a rear-view mirror in a pick-up truck\, Dusty Roads looks back through the history of written and recorded music\, studying fervently to decipher just what made each of these classic songs so special and unique.  Just like ‘looking backwards to go forwards’\, Mickelson applies this approach to writing original material for the band. \nDuring the Winter of 2015\, Dusty Roads went into the studio to begin recording its debut self-titled album.
