SUMMARY:Merry Funkin' Christmas feat. Secondhand Swagger
DESCRIPTION:Secondhand Swagger is more than a name; it’s a lifestyle. We’re an Atlanta-based band with a passion for vintage sounds and style\, disciples of soul music from the 1960s and 70s. Our mission is to keep this music alive and people dancing\, taking it back to a time when lyrics and melodies came from the heart with a wink and a laugh. \nSecondhand Swagger was just a dream when Abby Wren (vocals) and Scott Bryan (drums and vocals) got together in 2008\, spending every Sunday for a year in a song-writing sojourn. Secondhand grew member by member and the family no includes Tiffany White (keys\, vocals)\, Rob Lane (guitar\, vocals) and Jairaj Swann (bass\, hot peppers). \nWe believe we’re soulmates brought together to keep this vintage sound alive. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nBar area seating is first-come\, first-serve. \nAdditional reservations are not required if a booth\, table\, or banquette has been purchased via Ticketfly. \nPLEASE NOTE: If earlier dinner reservations are made\, your seats are not guaranteed for the show. For example\, reserving a table at 8:00pm and keeping it for a 10:00pm show is unlikely. The only way to guarantee a seat for the show is to purchase table\, booth or banquette tickets. \nReservations for the Captain’s Room (private dining room) can be reserved for parties of 12-20 guests. For more info call 470-225-6162.

SUMMARY:Chicken Pickin' Brunch with Sans Abri
DESCRIPTION:The literal translation of “Sans Abri” is “without shelter.” The French use it as a term for “homeless”. In late 2011\, Josh Erwin and Michael Paynter found themselves with a handful of new songs that didn’t have a home in The Packway Handle Band\, the acclaimed bluegrass-based group from Athens\, GA\, that they co-founded. Using a cajon to loop live drum beats and alternately adding acoustic and electric guitar and mandolin\, the band creates a sound that steps away from their bluegrass roots and finds itself wading firmly into Americana waters. With only Erwin and Paynter at the helm\, the songs possess a sophisticated character with wide and transcendent appeal. The songs on the duo’s first release\, Shelter (December 2013\, through Twin Cousins Records) often tackle the inevitable predicaments inherent in modern life. The songs range from dark to playful\, entailing both sad and funny themes\, and are performed with a professional and skilled musical sensibility that only comes with the years that Erwin and Paynter have spent playing music together. Erwin’s “The Scientist” asks the difficult question\, “Are we someone’s experiment?” It combines satire with genuine curiosity that has puzzled mankind for millennia. In “One Pill A Day\,” a Paynter composition that progresses around a clutching mandolin riff that is doubled by the guitar\, one is led to believe that perseverance lies in the form of the pharmaceutical-induced peace of mind of a haunted person that can’t ever reach homeostasis without crashing back to the ground. Paynter’s “Winds Me Up\,” the more somber number that closes out the duo’s debut release\, showcases Erwin’s deftness on electric guitar and the duo’s tight-knit vocal harmonies. Those who give Shelter a listen will surely be pleased that these songs have found a home and a fruitful place to grow and evolve. \nRESERVATION INFO: \nTHIS IS A FREE EVENT. SUMMARY:FREE: An Acoustic Holiday with Michael Magno
DESCRIPTION:Please join us the The V for an acoustic evening of music filled with all of your holiday favorites. From “Jingle Bell Rock” to “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”\, ” I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” to ” Blue Christmas”. Make your reservations today. \nMagno – derived from the Latin adjective magna\, meaning “of greatness”…
Somewhere in the definition\, Michael Magno inherited the drive to become a serious singer/songwriter. Spoon-fed his influences by radio-loving parents\, Michael wrote his first song at age 14 and never looked back. \nBy today’s standards\, you can compare him to such contemporaries as Bruno Mars and OneRepublic\, with a smooth vocal reminiscent of Sting or Marvin Gaye. In 1998\, the Florida native transplanted to Atlanta and began performing his originals solo acoustic or with the his band\, MAGNO. He quickly gained popularity at such venues as Eddie’s Attic\, Smith’s Olde Bar and other music rooms around Atlanta. His sound is an organic blend of rock and soul\, with an undeniable pop sensibility. \nDrawing inspiration from coffee and 80’s radio\, Magno’s songs are a personal invite into familiarity. His songs convey broad takes on love and hope\, while letting his listeners embrace the lyrics in their own singularity. Live performances showcase Magno’s natural abilities: lucid vocals\, comfort on guitar and piano\, an alluring demeanor and boy-next-door smile. With every show\, Magno continues to draw a growing fan base\, validating his stride as a serious songwriter and performer. Find him on Facebook\, Twitter and Instagram @mrmagnomusic \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nTickets are not available for FREE shows. SUMMARY:Rodeo Twister
DESCRIPTION:Rodeo Twister play original rockabilly and honky-tonk music the way God intended it: without the use of them demon drums! But don’t worry your toes won’t tap or your hips won’t shake. The slap of the upright bass and the chugga-chugga of the rhythm guitar keep the beat just as good as the crack of snare – maybe even better. The three Twisters are veterans of Atlanta’s “Redneck Underground” roots music scene and have been members of so many “Best of Atlanta” lists they’ve lost count. Now all together for the first time\, they’re bringing a huge crop of brand-new songs and choice covers plus a secret weapon – some of the sweetest two and three-part harmonies you’ve ever heard. And you can hear ‘em\, too… without all that bangedy-bang of them demon drums! \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nTickets are not available for FREE shows. The band attacks each song as if it were their own\, and the energy exchanged between the band and the crowd has more in common with a stadium U2 show than that of a typical bar band. \nThe band has won accolades ranging from “Best Place to Get Drunk With Your Dad” to “Best Overall Music Act in Atlanta” to “Best Place to Start an Extramarital Affair\,” and has been name-dropped by the New York Times\, Pitchfork\, the Guardian UK\, Spin\, TimeOut New York\, Billboard\, MTV.com\, and (probably) your mom at her last cocktail party. \nSpeaking of name-dropping\, members of the band have played on-stage with members of Weezer\, Billy Joel\, Walter Egan\, .38 Special\, John Mayer\, Zac Brown Band\, Little River Band\, Sheryl Crow\, Noel Gallagher\, Starbuck\, Sarah McLachlan\, Don Henley\, Lynyrd Skynyrd\, Neil Finn\, Jellyfish\, Devo\, Nine Inch Nails\, Joan Jett\, Wet Willie\, Bon Jovi\, Skid Row\, and the Saturday Night Live Band. (None of those were a joke.) \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. Bar area seating is reserved on a first-come\, first-serve basis. \nAdditional reservations are not required if a table\, booth\, or banquette has been purchased via Ticketfly. \nReservations for the Captain’s Room (semi-private dining room) can be reserved for parties of 12-20 guests. SUMMARY:Atlanta Funk Society
DESCRIPTION:Atlanta Funk Society is a Funk band from Atlanta\, GA\, playing classic hits from the ’60s\, ’70s and ’80s\, including everything from “Superbad” by James Brown\, to “Whatcha Gonna Do For Me” by Chaka Kahn. \nStarted in the summer of 2010\, the Atlanta Funk Society brought together a collection of some of the best musicians Atlanta had to offer. Founding members guitarist and vocalist Rob Lane (the Apostles) and bass player Kevin Scott (Col. Bruce Hampton\, and others too numerous to mention) wanted to fill the need for a hard hitting funk band playing classic hits from the 60’s\, 70’s and 80’s. \nTheir first call was to Jonathan Lloyd(Cadillac Jones\, Lloyds Rocksteady Review)\, local trombone player and vocalist to put together the horn section which has included Deniz Felder\, Jason Collier\, Jon Marett (Willie Nelson\, Waylon Jennings\, OutKast\, Goodie Mob)\, Prof. Eric Fontaine (just about every great band in Atlanta)\, and Taylor Kennedy (Soulphonics\, Blair Crimmins). Next to join were guitarist Nick Johnson(Last Waltz Ensemble\, Pharoh Gummitt) and drummer Duane Trucks(Derek Trucks\, Pharoh Gummit) lending their unrivaled musicianship to the group. The keyboards were manned by Florida transplant and first call pianist Nick Rosen. Scotty Bryan (Cinetrope\, 3052 dub Collective) stepped up the bands’ vibe with the addition of percussion. \nThe next critical piece was a female vocalist\, and after a long search\, Michelle Marshall came into the fold and showed what was up. The last piece was additional percussionist Yaya Brown to provide the perfect complement to Scotty Bryan and complete the driving rhythms of AFS. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nAdditional reservations are not required if booth\, table\, or banquette tickets have been purchased via Ticketfly. \nPLEASE NOTE: If earlier dinner reservations are made\, your seats are not guaranteed for the show. For example\, you cannot reserve a table at 7:00pm and keep it for a 9:30pm show. The only way to guarantee a seat for the show is to purchase booth or banquette tickets. \nReservations for the Captain’s Room (private dining room) can be reserved for parties of 12-20 guests. For more info call 470-225-6162.

SUMMARY:Coyote Anyway
DESCRIPTION:A Coyote chorus howls against a fading summer swelter. The mellow jangle of rusty strings picked with a fierce intuition\, refreshing like a crisp cold brew on a hot day. Coyote Anyway makes music like that. Both fresh and familiar. With a tip of the hat to a hundred years of American music\, their sound is informed by classic wax from both sides of the tracks. A lazy country shuffle\, a touch Bo Diddley flavored mambo\, a few barnburner blues romps. Maybe when the lights go lower and the bar is filling\, they turn up a bit and this potent blend sounds a bit like Rock & Roll\, the way your grandpappy thought of it. \nThe story of Coyote Anyway is a long road with many forks. Comprised of Dave Kirslis \, Matt Garrison\, Zeke Sayer and Matthew Pendrick\, the group has roots that run deep. All born and raised in Georgia\, the members of this coyote collective have steeped in the rich music culture of the south\, and digested its potent tonic to heart. It’s the sound of old friends coming together to play what comes naturally and what feels good. Over the years they have shared a thousand stages with some of the best around. “A real appreciation for tradition doesn’t mean you must be tied to the past…really it’s freeing. To use those sounds and ideas as spring board to our own twist on it\, not unlike the way any one of our heroes did in their day.” \n“Every member of this group is doing really great things on their own and with other projects and such\,” says Pendrick. “I think that’s part of what makes it so fun. There’s a lot of mutual respect for each other as players and writers\, so when we have a chance to get together\, there’s a genuine excitement that comes from being in such good company.” Audiences around the South who have been privy to the band’s live set have said much the same. Toes get to tappin. Hearts get to bumping. Everybody have a real good time. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nTickets are not available for FREE shows. For seating at a FREE show\, please make reservations for the appropriate time at www.venkmans.com (see “Reservations”)\, or by calling 470-225-6162.
