DESCRIPTION:Deliciously Stanky\, Dynamically Funky\, Recklessly Hopeful.  Grounded in soul\, the Charles Walker Band has been compared to Prince\, Bruno Mars\, The Brand New Heavys\, James Brown and Sharon Jones.  The Milwaukee based band has refined their sound into Neo-Funk\, a fusion of funk and soul infused rhythms with pop melodies.  The seven piece band rehearses relentlessly in Charles’ basement\, amidst couches and low ceilings\, the trombonist having to stoop the entire time\, continually evolving their performance.  These questions are continually posed: How can we make this sound tighter?  How can we arrange this to make it more stimulating? How can we make this song look visually different?  They combine this quest for musical excellence with deep gospel influences and positive lyrical messages. The Charles Walker Band is Deliciously Stanky\, Dynamically Funky\, Recklessly Hopeful. \n   As a testament to their live magic\, the group has opened for national acts including Earth Wind & Fire\, Aaron Neville\, Robert Cray\, BB King\, Richard Marx\, Eddie Shaw (Howlin Wolf’s Sax Player)\, Booker T\, Cameo and Bernard Allison. DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in Cincinnati\, OH\, Freekbass was an only child who initially wanted to be a magician. He later developed his own obsession for cartoon superheroes and comic books\, relating to the underlying themes.\nLiving in Cincinnati exposed Freekbass to genres of music he may have missed otherwise. While most kids were listening to Nirvana and Green Day\, he connected with the bottom-heavy sounds coming out of the boom boxes like Zapp and Midnight Star. While working in a music shop to pay off his first electric bass he had in lay-away\, he began to study the classics of Larry Graham\, Sly Stone\, Stevie Wonder\, Parliament and Bootsy with a bass in one hand\, and an MPC2000 in the other. \nFreekbass has released six full-length CDs\, including “Concentrate” with guests Bootsy Collins\, DJ Spooky\, Adam Deitch\, and Steve Molitz\, and “Junkyard Waltz” which includes guest appearances by Phish bassist Mike Gordon\, guitarist Buckethead\, keyboard wizard from P-Funk/Talking Heads Bernie Worrell\, and is produced by funk legend Bootsy Collins. Also\, national music DVD instruction company\, The Rock House Method\, recently released two Freekbass instructional DVDs “Learn Funk Bass with Freekbass (Level 1 & Level 2) “\, and TrueFire.com just released the instructional DVD/download “50 Freekbass Licks You Must Know” . In 2010 Freekbass connected with DJ Logic\, and Particle keyboardist Steve Molitz to form the funktronica trio\, Headtronics.  \nGoing into 2015 Freek has a lot of things on the table. He just released his next album \, “Everybody’s Feelin’ Real”\, which is produced by Duane Lundy (My Morning Jacket’s Jim James/Ben Sollee) and includes P-Funk/Rubberband keyboardist Razor Sharp Johnson\, horn man Skerik\, and Trey Anastasio Band vocalist/trumpet Jennifer Hartswick . Also\, he was a part of this year’s London Bass Guitar Show in the UK giving a master class and performing. Plus he will be doing extensive touring with his mainstay funk group\, “Freekbass & The Bump Assembly” which also includes funk legend Razor Sharp Johnson on keys/synths and George Clinton & P-Funk alumni Rico Lewis on drums. And recently\, he signed with the esteemed label Ropeadope Records.

SUMMARY:Chicken Pickin' Brunch with Dusty Roads
DESCRIPTION:Dusty Roads is a high-energy Georgia-grown Americana band\, formed by Atlanta based musician\, John Mickelson.  When you’re at a Dusty Roads show\, expect to hear influences of the legends of country and bluegrass music\, such as Merle Haggard\, Flatt & Scruggs\, Willie Nelson\, Buck Owens\, and Bill Monroe.  You can also expect sprinklings of songs and sounds of the great writers and musicians from across the globe and halls of time\, like Django Reinhardt\, Duke Ellington\, and Irving Berlin.  “Come take a trip\, down that long\, dusty road”.\n            Comprised of some of the Southeasts finest pickers and singers\, the band is ever evolving and growing.  “We’re all Georgia boys” says Mickelson of the band members\, which features Jared Lanham on mandolin and tabla – the traditional Indian hand-drum.  “Colt Bowen has one of the lightest touches of any drummer in town” says Mickelson of the Dusty Roads drummer.  Fiddlin’ phenom Danny Bermel joined the group in late 2016\, and adds an agile musical flare that pushes their musical crescendos to another level of fever-pitch.  Dusty Roads is constantly searching for that sound\, that lick\, that twangy hook that sinks deep into the listener’s soul and pulls them into the unfolding story of each song.  The group cherishes the purity of silvery strings ringing together harmoniously.  The band champions comradery\, respect for the craft of their instruments\, and finely constructed songs that feel as if they soar down from the mountaintop to resonate the listener’s heart-strings.\n            “We came here with one purpose\, to have a blast playing and performing live acoustic music”- says Mickelson\, singer/songwriter for Dusty Roads.   Growing up in Atlanta\, he was surrounded by a diverse world of cultures\, food\, and music.  “My great-grandfather was a mandolin player from Germany\, so I guess it just runs in the blood”\, says Mickelson of his musical lineage.
