SUMMARY:Big Sam's Funky Nation
DESCRIPTION:Noladelic PowerFunk. That’s the sound BIG SAM’S FUNKY NATION have been whipping up for more than a decade. It’s high-energy music that mixes funk\, rock & roll\, hip-hop\, and jazz into the same pot\, gluing everything together with the brassy influence — and heavy grooves — of New Orleans. \nFrom national performances at Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits\, to hometown appearances at Voodoo Fest and Jazz Fest\, Big Sam’s Funky Nation have built their reputation onstage. The band’s live performances are legendary\, filled with blasts of brass\, bursts of electric guitar\, and the charisma of Big Sam\, a frontman who sings\, plays\, dances\, and involves the audience in everything he does. You don’t just watch a Funky Nation show. You become part of the show\, singing along with Big Sam whenever he demands a call-and-response. \nA native of New Orleans\, Big Sam first rose to fame as a member of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band\, whose touring schedule kept the young trombonist on the road for 300 days a year. The group performed with bands from all genres\, backing up Widespread Panic one minute before sharing the stage with Dave Matthews Band the next. A fan of diverse bands like Parliament Funkadelic\, Jimi Hendrix\, Red Hot Chili Peppers\, Living Colour\, and Prince\, Big Sam loved the variety that Dirty Dozen Brass Band offered. He wanted to front his own group\, though. He needed to sing\, to engage the crowd\, to write his own songs. Inspired to chase down that dream\, he formed Big Sam’s Funky Nation\, reaching out to some of his favorite players from around the Big Easy — including Andrew “Da Phessa” Bayham\, Jerry “Jblakk” Henderson\, Alfred Jordan and Keenan McRae — to create his own super-group. \n“We don’t cater to one demographic\,” says Big Sam\, rattling off a list of jam band festivals\, jazz shows\, rock clubs\, and funk gigs that his band has played since 2007. “We play music for everybody. It’s not just funk; that’s the foundation\, but the music goes from funk to rock to wild jazz. It’s music about love and partying. Everyone can get down with that.” \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nAdditional reservations are not required if a table\, booth or banquette have been purchased via Ticketfly. \nPLEASE NOTE: If earlier dinner reservations are made\, your seats are not guaranteed for the show. For example\, it is unlikely to be able to reserve a table at 8:00pm and keep it for a 10:00pm show. The only way to guarantee a seat for the show is to purchase table\, booth\, or banquette tickets. \nBar area and patio seating is reserved on a first-come\, first-serve basis. \nReservations for the Captain’s Room (private dining room) can be reserved for parties of 10-24 guests. SUMMARY:The REMakes: A tribute to the early catalogue of R.E.M.
DESCRIPTION:Atlanta R.E.M. tribute band the REMakes knows that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That’s the reason their covers of songs from R.E.M.’s early catalog (ranging from Chronic Town to Monster) are authentic and true to the original recordings. Playing the band’s biggest hits as well as deep album tracks\, the REMakes take their audience on a musical ride back to 1980s’ Athens\, Ga. \nLead singer and guitar player Geoff Melkonian and bass player and backing vocalist Jeff Rosenberg have been playing together since they were 14 and R.E.M. was still an underground band. Melkonian and drummer Webb Vandiver began jamming when they were in their early 20s. Out of a love and passion for the music they grew up with\, the three musicians came together in 2009 as the REMakes. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nBar area seating is also first-come\, first-serve. \nAdditional reservations are not required if a table\, booth\, or banquette has been purchased via Ticketfly. \nPLEASE NOTE: If earlier dinner reservations are made\, your seats are not guaranteed for the show. SUMMARY:Yesterday's Wine + ESOEBO
DESCRIPTION:Yesterday’s Wine: \nYesterday’s Wine captivate and charm their audience in any venue. Music festivals and songwriter rounds across the country have been buzzing about the brilliant shows delivered by the duo. Wyatt Durrette and Levi Lowrey are acclaimed singer-songwriters in their own right\, brought together by their craft and love for sharing music. Wyatt and Levi collaborated in the past\, lending their talents in co-writing on the Zac Brown Band song “Colder Weather” which spent two weeks at #1. Levi and Wyatt also contributed in writing on the GRAMMY award winning ZBB song “The Wind”. Individually\, Wyatt has 7 more GRAMMY Awards and Levi has performed extensively with acts including Mumford and Sons\, Kid Rock and Alabama. Now performing together as Yesterday’s Wine\, the pair epitomize the magic in story-telling through song. \nESOEBO: \nIf it were not for a freak accident involving a bolt of lightning\, a concrete block\, and a slimjim\, then ESOEBO might not exist today…. but more about that another time. ESOEBO is singer/guitarist/songwriter Chuck McDowell and singer/cellist/songwriter Gail Burnett. 10 years ago the two were randomly paired at church to play a song together and the rest is history. Channeling the musical influences of the 40’s\, 50’s\, 60’s\, 70’s\, 80’s\, 90’s\, 21st Century through a filter of folk\, rockabilly\, hillbilly\, blues\, jazz\, boogie-woogie\, and TV show tunes to merge in to a style of music the world now knows as ESOEBO. For reasons unknown to modern medicine\, opera was the only genre omitted from the transformation which took place after the accident. ESOEBO has become a popular choice in the Southeast Region for corporate events\, private parties\, festivals\, outdoor events\, weddings/receptions\, and worship concerts\, not only for their eclectic “everything but opera” setlist\, but also for their musicianship and spontaneity on stage. No two shows are the same and no song is performed the same way twice. Re-imagining songs from Hank Williams to The Civil Wars\, from Johnny Cash to Alison Krauss\, from Leon Redbone to Pasty Cline as well as well crafted original material\, their show is unique\, fun and wonderfully engaging. Their second release\, titled ESOEBO: Live and Overboard\, is an eclectic and broadly appealing collection of live performances of roots/gospel music. Their most recent release\, The Journey (2015)\, is garnering interest further and wider and opening up new performance opportunities. “Chuck’s songwriting is as deep and wide as the Mississippi River. Optimistic and sharply perceptive – it’s just great stuff.” CHUCK McDOWELL – In the 2nd grade\, Chuck was star struck by the Beatles and amazed by the effect the guitar slinging songsters had on the girls. Chuck decided it was time to pick up the guitar for himself. When it was time to get serious about life and start a family\, his music was relegated to his basement and occasional church services. Recently he’s discovered a new passion and commitment for music and the wonderful connections it creates between people. Chuck is currently writing material for two new albums. GAIL BURNETT – Gail Burnett is a professional cellist/vocalist with a Bachelor of Arts in music. In addition to performing with ESOEBO\, she is a studio musician and freelance cellist. Gail is also passionate about educating and entertaining young children and her band\, Miss Gail and the Jumpin’ Jam Band\, is #1 on the children’s/family charts in the SE. With five all-original CD’s\, the band’s mission is health\, fitness\, and fun…..and their dancing\, jumpin\, interactive live shows are a blast for even the youngest of kids at festivals\, events\, schools\, and camps! Gail is also an educator\, speaker at preschool conferences\, and a Center Director for Music Together\, a program to help kids get the right start on their life-long musical journey! She is a founding member of ESOEBO along with Chuck McDowell and Jonathan Cullifer. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nBar area seating is first-come\, first-serve. \nAdditional reservations are not required if a booth\, table\, or banquette has been purchased via Ticketfly. \nPLEASE NOTE: If earlier dinner reservations are made\, your seats are not guaranteed for the show. SUMMARY:Bottomless Mimosa Brunch w/ Rodeo Twister
DESCRIPTION:Rodeo Twister play original rockabilly and honky-tonk music the way God intended it: without the use of them demon drums! But don’t worry your toes won’t tap or your hips won’t shake. The slap of the upright bass and the chugga-chugga of the rhythm guitar keep the beat just as good as the crack of snare – maybe even better. The three Twisters are veterans of Atlanta’s “Redneck Underground” roots music scene and have been members of so many “Best of Atlanta” lists they’ve lost count. Now all together for the first time\, they’re bringing a huge crop of brand-new songs and choice covers plus a secret weapon – some of the sweetest two and three-part harmonies you’ve ever heard. And you can hear ‘em\, too… without all that bangedy-bang of them demon drums! \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nTickets are not available for FREE shows. For seating at a FREE show\, please make reservations for the appropriate time at www.venkmans.com (see “Reservations”)\, or by calling 470-225-6162.

SUMMARY:Atlanta Funk Society
DESCRIPTION:Atlanta Funk Society is a Funk band from Atlanta\, GA\, playing classic hits from the ’60s\, ’70s and ’80s\, including everything from “Superbad” by James Brown\, to “Whatcha Gonna Do For Me” by Chaka Kahn. \nStarted in the summer of 2010\, the Atlanta Funk Society brought together a collection of some of the best musicians Atlanta had to offer. Founding members guitarist and vocalist Rob Lane (the Apostles) and bass player Kevin Scott (Col. Bruce Hampton\, and others too numerous to mention) wanted to fill the need for a hard hitting funk band playing classic hits from the 60’s\, 70’s and 80’s. \nTheir first call was to Jonathan Lloyd(Cadillac Jones\, Lloyds Rocksteady Review)\, local trombone player and vocalist to put together the horn section which has included Deniz Felder\, Jason Collier\, Jon Marett (Willie Nelson\, Waylon Jennings\, OutKast\, Goodie Mob)\, Prof. Eric Fontaine (just about every great band in Atlanta)\, and Taylor Kennedy (Soulphonics\, Blair Crimmins). Next to join were guitarist Nick Johnson(Last Waltz Ensemble\, Pharoh Gummitt) and drummer Duane Trucks(Derek Trucks\, Pharoh Gummit) lending their unrivaled musicianship to the group. The keyboards were manned by Florida transplant and first call pianist Nick Rosen. Scotty Bryan (Cinetrope\, 3052 dub Collective) stepped up the bands’ vibe with the addition of percussion. \nThe next critical piece was a female vocalist\, and after a long search\, Michelle Marshall came into the fold and showed what was up. The last piece was additional percussionist Yaya Brown to provide the perfect complement to Scotty Bryan and complete the driving rhythms of AFS. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nAdditional reservations are not required if booth\, table\, or banquette tickets have been purchased via Ticketfly. \nPLEASE NOTE: If earlier dinner reservations are made\, your seats are not guaranteed for the show. For example\, you cannot reserve a table at 7:00pm and keep it for a 9:30pm show. The only way to guarantee a seat for the show is to purchase booth or banquette tickets. \nReservations for the Captain’s Room (private dining room) can be reserved for parties of 10-24 guests. SUMMARY:Bottomless Mimosa Brunch w/ Dave Potter Trio
DESCRIPTION:Dave Potter is quickly becoming known as a formidable musician. He has performed with many well-known jazz artists and recorded 3 albums with Jason Marsalis. Following his graduation from Florida State University in 2005\, he was chosen from a national pool of applicants to be a member of the Louis Armstrong Quintet at the University of New Orleans. Unfortunately\, the tragedy of hurricane Katrina temporarily ended his hopes for a career in Louisiana. In the spring of 2006\, Dave was awarded a full scholarship to the prestigious Julliard Jazz Program in New York City. However\, after several days of intense meditation he declined the offer and returned to Florida State University\, where he received his Master’s Degree in the winter of 2008 after further collaboration with his mentor Marcus Roberts. In 2010\, Potter was featured in a novel entitled “The New Face of Jazz” about the younger generation of Jazz musicians making an impact in the current scene. Dave is now located in Atlanta where he maintains a busy teaching and performing schedule while also touring the globe as a member of The Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nTickets are not available for FREE shows.
