SUMMARY:Atlanta Funk Society
DESCRIPTION:Atlanta Funk Society is a Funk band from Atlanta\, GA\, playing classic hits from the ’60s\, ’70s and ’80s\, including everything from “Superbad” by James Brown\, to “Whatcha Gonna Do For Me” by Chaka Kahn. \nStarted in the summer of 2010\, the Atlanta Funk Society brought together a collection of some of the best musicians Atlanta had to offer. Founding members guitarist and vocalist Rob Lane (the Apostles) and bass player Kevin Scott (Col. Bruce Hampton\, and others too numerous to mention) wanted to fill the need for a hard hitting funk band playing classic hits from the 60’s\, 70’s and 80’s. \nTheir first call was to Jonathan Lloyd(Cadillac Jones\, Lloyds Rocksteady Review)\, local trombone player and vocalist to put together the horn section which has included Deniz Felder\, Jason Collier\, Jon Marett (Willie Nelson\, Waylon Jennings\, OutKast\, Goodie Mob)\, Prof. Eric Fontaine (just about every great band in Atlanta)\, and Taylor Kennedy (Soulphonics\, Blair Crimmins). Next to join were guitarist Nick Johnson(Last Waltz Ensemble\, Pharoh Gummitt) and drummer Duane Trucks(Derek Trucks\, Pharoh Gummit) lending their unrivaled musicianship to the group. The keyboards were manned by Florida transplant and first call pianist Nick Rosen. Scotty Bryan (Cinetrope\, 3052 dub Collective) stepped up the bands’ vibe with the addition of percussion. \nThe next critical piece was a female vocalist\, and after a long search\, Michelle Marshall came into the fold and showed what was up. The last piece was additional percussionist Yaya Brown to provide the perfect complement to Scotty Bryan and complete the driving rhythms of AFS. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nAdditional reservations are not required if booth\, table\, or banquette tickets have been purchased via Ticketfly. \nPLEASE NOTE: If earlier dinner reservations are made\, your seats are not guaranteed for the show. For example\, you cannot reserve a table at 7:00pm and keep it for a 9:30pm show. The only way to guarantee a seat for the show is to purchase booth or banquette tickets. \nReservations for the Captain’s Room (private dining room) can be reserved for parties of 10-24 guests. SUMMARY:FREE EARLY SHOW: First Women of Country with Ginger Cowgirl
DESCRIPTION:The core of Ginger Cowgirl is California-born Antonel\, a vocalist whose range and versatility allow her to sing rock\, jazz\, soul\, pop and country with equal proficiency and passion. She’s a classically trained pianist from the age of 7\, holds a degree from UC Berkeley\, and got her start in the music industry singing jingles while living in Buenos Aires\, Argentina. In 2013 she beat out hundreds of singers to win the $10\,000 grand prize on Fox’s televised singing competition “3 Minutes to Stardom”. \nWhile a taste for many styles of music is evident in Nashville-based band Ginger Cowgirl’s upcoming release\, their approach is nevertheless rooted in the tradition of classic country brevity\, wit and soul. Throw in some pedal steel\, rockin’ telecaster twang\, worldly lyrics and front-woman Stacy Antonel’s eclectic vocals\, and you have a unique brand of Americana music.

SUMMARY:Yacht Rock Revue Turkey Eve
DESCRIPTION:You’re Welcomesgiving\, Nation of Smooth!  \n“Thanksgiving is an emotional holiday. People travel thousands of miles to be with people they only see once a year. And then discover once a year is way too often.” -Johnny Carson Join us for our annual Yacht Rock Turkey Eve show at Venkman’s. \nThe Yacht Rock Revue™ is the Greatest Show on Surf and the finest tribute to ‘70s light rock to ever perform anywhere. Ever. Their spot-on renditions of Hall & Oates\, Michael McDonald\, Steely Dan\, and the rest of the Time-Life Infomercial Catalog have enthralled fans across the United States. It goes without saying they have taken their act to the high seas\, performing showcase sets on music cruises with Weezer\, Kid Rock\, Train\, Zac Brown Band\, Sister Hazel\, and fitness guru Jillian Michaels. \nBy blurring the lines between a tribute\, an original act\, and a comedic troupe\, the Yacht Rock Revue™ has forged a unique niche market and a special bond with their fans. The band attacks each song as if it were their own\, and the energy exchanged between the band and the crowd has more in common with a stadium U2 show than that of a typical bar band. \nThe band has won accolades ranging from “Best Place to Get Drunk With Your Dad” to “Best Overall Music Act in Atlanta” to “Best Place to Start an Extramarital Affair\,” and has been name-dropped by the New York Times\, Pitchfork\, the Guardian UK\, Spin\, TimeOut New York\, Billboard\, MTV.com\, and (probably) your mom at her last cocktail party. \nSpeaking of name-dropping\, members of the band have played on-stage with members of Weezer\, Billy Joel\, Walter Egan\, .38 Special\, John Mayer\, Zac Brown Band\, Little River Band\, Sheryl Crow\, Noel Gallagher\, Starbuck\, Sarah McLachlan\, Don Henley\, Lynyrd Skynyrd\, Neil Finn\, Jellyfish\, Devo\, Nine Inch Nails\, Joan Jett\, Wet Willie\, Bon Jovi\, Skid Row\, and the Saturday Night Live Band. (None of those were a joke.) \nThe Yacht Rock Revue™ has packed out shows at historic venues including the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta\, the Knitting Factory in New York City\, Athens’ famed Georgia Theatre\, Washington DC’s State Theatre\, and Nashville’s Mercy Lounge. They played at the finish line of the Peachtree Road Race for 50\,000+ two years running; played on Turner Field for 30\,000 fans on July 4; and sang the National Anthem at Braves Manager Bobby Cox’s last game. \nThe Yacht Rock Revue™ goes beyond the smooth to perform under many aliases: Please PleaseRock Me (Beatles)\, Reagan Rock (Smooth ’80s) Uno Dos Tres Catorce (U2)\, Dazed and Confused (’70s Stoner Rock)\, Rock Fight (Led Zeppelin vs. the Who\, Tom Petty vs. Fleetwood Mac\, etc.) and so forth. \nYacht Rock Revue™ also performs many classic albums in their entirety\, including Michael Jackson’s Thriller\, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon\, Prince’s Purple Rain\, the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band\, XTC’s Black Sea\, and Led Zeppelin IV. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nBar area and patio seating are first-come\, first-serve. \nAdditional reservations are not required if a booth\, table\, or banquette has been purchased via Ticketfly. \nReservations for the Captain’s Room (private dining room) can be reserved for parties of 12-20 guests. SUMMARY:Beyond the Neighborhood: The Music of Fred Rogers
DESCRIPTION:Atlanta-native and GRAMMY nominated pianist Kevin Bales and Chicago-based vocalist Keri Johnsrud are excited to announce their show Venkman’s in Atlanta\, GA. Celebrating the inspiring legacy of Fred Rogers\, as portrayed on their latest release Beyond the Neighborhood: The Music of Fred Rogers\, Bales and Johnsrud will be joined byBilly Thornton on bass and Marlon Patton on drums. During these performances\, the duo will present their uniquely reimagined and rearranged interpretations of Fred Rogers’ array of compositions; Compositions that have been heard by numerous generations on the beloved children’s television program Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. On the duo’s recent show at Winter’s Jazz Club\, Howard Reich at The Chicago Tribune enthused: “When Johnsrud began the evening singing “It’s You I Like\,” there was no mistaking the warmth of her instrument\, the radiance of her tone or the buoyancy of her approach to swing rhythm. Add to this Bales’ all-over-the-keyboard technique\, and you had proof positive that Rogers’ vignettes could carry a great deal of musical weight.” \nOn Monday\, November 19th\, Bales\, Johnsrud\, Thornton\, and Patton will play at Venkman’s\, located at 740 Ralph McGill Blvd NE\, Atlanta. For this show\, special guests Trey Wright on guitar\, GSU Head of Jazz Gordon Vernick on trumpet and Armenian cellist Arpenik will join the group. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nReservations for the Captain’s Room (private dining room) can be reserved for parties of 10-24 guests. SUMMARY:9th Street Stompers + Caleb & the Gents
DESCRIPTION:The 9th Street Stompers are an outfit of well-dressed no-counts chopping on acoustic instruments and singing about life\, death\, love\, and liquor. Hailing from Chattanooga\, Tennessee\, they cull up the musical scenery of an era when the lines between swing\, gypsy jazz\, blues\, rockabilly\, and tango weren’t nearly as hard and fast as the drinking and dancing. Steering clear of much of the novelty and kitsch associated with pre-war music\, they choose to demonstrate the modern relevance of their chosen medium. \nWith Skip Frontz Jr. furiously slapping the string bass and Lon Eldridge on blues finger-style resonator guitar\, ukulele\, and kazoo\, they share vocal duties. Dalton Chapman is a Gypsy Swing virtuoso who diligently studied the great Django Reinhardt and finally\, the always enchanting Sampire swings the brush snare with the grace and finesse of a sultry metronome. If her drumming doesn’t catch your attention\, her eyes certainly will. \nIf you like high-energy showmanship and top-notch musical prowess\, The 9th Street Stompers will see you front row! \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nPurchasing a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat/table. \nAdditional reservations are not required if a table\, booth or banquette have been purchased via Ticketfly. \nPLEASE NOTE: If earlier dinner reservations are made\, your seats are not guaranteed for the show. For example\, it is unlikely to be able to reserve a table at 8:00pm and keep it for a 10:00pm show. SUMMARY:Blair Crimmins and The Hookers
DESCRIPTION:Blair Crimmins began his current music career in Atlanta\, Georgia\, with a determination to bring Ragtime and 1920’s style Dixieland Jazz to new audiences. While playing small rock clubs around the Southeast he developed a sound that is at once modern while being deeply rooted in the past. They quickly took the show to the road\, touring the country playing large venues and has opened for acts such as Mumford & Sons and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. A multi-instrumentalist and music academic\, Crimmins writes songs and arrangements for a classic New Orleans style horn section consisting of trumpet\, clarinet and trombone. His debut 2010 release The Musical Stylings Of became a college radio sensation on WRAS Atlanta making him the most requested band on the air. In 2012 Crimmins showed his musical diversity by writing and recording the full score for the independent short film “Old Man Cabbage”. The following year\, Crimmins was the critics pick for Best Song Writer of 2013 in Creative Loafing’s Best of ATL issue. His last album entitled Sing-a-longs! went to #21 on the EuroAmerican radio chart and earned him a nomination at The Georgia Music Awards for Best Jazz Artist. Blair Crimmins has now released his anticipated 4th studio album You Gotta Sell Something. The band continues touring the country and abroad performing their newest songs from the record as well as old favorites from his past recordings.
