Their second album\, Astral Rejection\, was originally supposed to be released on June 22\, 2010\, but the original recording was shelved by Epitaph\, and later released on June 21\, 2011.\n\nI Set My Friends on Fire is recognized for their experimental musical style. On July 4th\, 2015\, after the second show of the Grateful Dead GD50 run\, Runaway Gin sold out the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago and catapulting them from a Southeastern regional act onto the National scene. The members of Runaway Gin have united with the goal of creating musical moments inspired by Phish. The band’s song list is constantly growing and their improvisational and communication skills are constantly developing independently and together. Like Phish\, Runaway Gin will never play the same show or jam the same way twice making every show a unique experience and every moment pure artistic creation.

Using a cajon to loop live drum beats and alternately adding acoustic and electric guitar and mandolin\, the band creates a sound that steps away from their bluegrass roots and finds itself wading firmly into Americana waters. With only Erwin and Paynter at the helm\, the songs possess a sophisticated character with wide and transcendent appeal.  The songs on the duo’s first release\, Shelter (December 2013\, through Twin Cousins Records) often tackle the inevitable predicaments inherent in modern life. The songs range from dark to playful\, entailing both sad and funny themes\, and are performed with a professional and skilled musical sensibility that only comes with the years that Erwin and Paynter have spent playing music together.  Erwin’s “The Scientist” asks the difficult question\, “Are we someone’s experiment?”  It combines satire with genuine curiosity that has puzzled mankind for millennia.  In “One Pill A Day\,” a Paynter composition that progresses around a clutching mandolin riff that is doubled by the guitar\, one is led to believe that perseverance lies in the form of the pharmaceutical-induced peace of mind of a haunted person that can’t ever reach homeostasis without crashing back to the ground. Paynter’s “Winds Me Up\,” the more somber number that closes out the duo’s debut release\, showcases Erwin’s deftness on electric guitar and the duo’s tight-knit vocal harmonies. DESCRIPTION:Nico Lembo was born and raised in Clearwater\, Florida and began playing drums at age 11 at the insistence of his father.  He attended college at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville in 2006\, where he received instruction from world-renowned drummer Danny Gottlieb.  Under Danny’s tutelage\, Nico developed a refined sense of groove\, musicianship\, and technique.  In 2008\, Nico had the great honor of performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City with the UNF Wind Ensemble\, and upon graduating in 2010\, lent his talents to many Jacksonville area bands performing live shows and recordings.  He has recorded with Jacksonville artists Saltwater Grass\, Toots Lorraine and the Traffic\, and Brady Clampitt\, along with the UNF Jazz Ensemble 2 and UNF combo 1.  As a member of Saltwater Grass\, he played across the southeast\, including multiple festivals at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak\, Florida.  2013 brought a location change to Atlanta\, Georgia where he immediately began working with members of Grammy award winning band Arrested Development\, and with the award winning corporate band the Emerald Empire Band. All born and raised in Georgia\, the members of this coyote collective have steeped in the rich music culture of the south\, and digested its potent tonic to heart. It’s the sound of old friends coming together to play what comes naturally and what feels good.
