SUMMARY:Chicken Pickin' Brunch w/ Dusty Roads
DESCRIPTION:Dusty Roads is a high-energy Georgia-grown Americana band\, formed by Atlanta based musician\, J.L. Mickelson. When you’re at a Dusty Roads show\, expect to hear influences of the legends of country and bluegrass music\, such as Merle Haggard\, Flatt & Scruggs\, Willie Nelson\, Buck Owens\, and Bill Monroe. You can also expect sprinklings of songs and sounds of the great writers and musicians from across the globe and halls of time\, like Django Earnhardt\, Duke Ellington\, and Irving Berlin. “Come take a trip\, down that long\, dusty road”. \nComprised of some of the Southeast regions finest pickers and singers\, the band is ever evolving and growing. They’re constantly searching for that sound\, that lick\, that twangy hook that sinks deep into the listener’s soul and pulls them into the unfolding story of each song. Dusty Roads cherishes the purity of silvery steel strings ringing together harmoniously. The band champions comradery\, respect for the craft of their instruments\, and finely constructed songs that feel as if they soar down from the mountaintop to resonate the listener’s heart-strings. \n“We came here with one purpose\, to have a blast playing and performing live acoustic music”- J.L. Mickelson\, singer/songwriter for Dusty Roads. Growing up in Atlanta\, Mickelson was surrounded by a diverse world of cultures and music his whole life. “My great-grandfather was a mandolin player from Germany\, so I guess it just runs in the blood”\, says Mickelson of his musical lineage. Like a rear-view mirror in a pick-up truck\, Dusty Roads looks back through the history of written and recorded music\, studying fervently to decipher just what made each of these classic songs so special and unique. Just like ‘looking backwards to go forwards’\, Mickelson applies this approach to writing original material for the band. \nDuring the Winter of 2015\, Dusty Roads went into the studio to begin recording its debut self-titled album. Due out in the Spring 2016\, the album will feature all original music inspired by life\, love\, heartache. “Life is heavy\, but music can make your bags a little lighter” – J.L. Mickelson \nTICKETING/RESERVATION INFO: \nTickets are not available for FREE shows. For seating at a FREE show\, please make reservations for the appropriate time at www.venkmans.com (see “Reservations”)\, or by calling 470-225-6162.

SUMMARY:500 Songs For Kids XI
DESCRIPTION:This year’s 500 SONGS features over 1000 musicians performing the 500 Greatest Feel-Good Songs of All Time. It takes place over 12 nights\, spread out over 6 consecutive weekends. The benefit lands at Venkman’s on March 31/April 1 and April 21/22. \nAdmission price: Pay what you want! \nAre you a performer interested in participating? Please visit\nhttp://www.songsforkids.org/500SongsForKids to submit an application to perform. \nAll proceeds benefit Songs For Kids Foundation: \nSongs For Kids Foundation exists to give kids battling serious illness opportunities to be creative and express themselves through music. We’ve brought music into hospitals all over the US and run regular programs in children’s hospitals in 5 states. Songs for Kids musicians perform in-hospital mini concerts for whole floors of patients and make individual bedside visits for kids who don’t have the chance to leave their rooms. We’re not there to just play a couple of songs\, provide a distraction\, and leave; our goal is to form the kinds of meaningful relationships that it takes to help kids deal with their illnesses through creativity. \nIn addition to hospital performances\, we provide opportunities for\nsongwriting and recording to give kids a chance to put their\nexperiences into words and feel a sense of accomplishment. This year\, we’ll be taking that work one step further by launching a one-on-one music mentorship program that will be available to kids both in and out of the hospital. Kids who join the program will work with their own Songs For Kids musician on a dedicated music project. Whether that means songwriting\, singing lessons\, or learning an instrument\, we can’t wait to see and showcase the awesome work they do together. \nSongs For Kids: we’re honored to rock with the kids who need us most. \nTICKETING & RESERVATION INFO: \nDonations are highly encouraged and can be accepted at the door. \nAdvance dinner reservations are highly encouraged and can be made at venkmans.com\, or by calling 470-225-6162.
