Brandon Williams at Venkman’s
Event Navigation
Brandon Williams is a musician, composer, and producer carrying the tradition of independent soul music and the adult contemporary format. Williams began exploring a career in music at the age of 12 when he formed a mentoring relationship with the Grammy-Award winning super producer Michael J. Powell. Powell is most recognized for his work with Anita Baker, one of the most celebrated artists from Williams’ beloved hometown of Detroit, MI. The relationship would change the course of Williams’ life as he mastered performing, engineering, musical directing, arranging, and producing. Brandon Williams’ mastery makes him a highly sought after talent in the studio as well as on stage, also giving him the unique ability to play to the strength of collaborators no matter the genre. His work with indie-dominators like Eric Roberson and Frank McComb is just as effervescent as his work with hip-hop behemoths like Dr. Dre and Eminem.
In 2009, Williams collaborated with Vicki Winans for the inspirational album “How I Got Over”. The project earned Williams a Grammy nomination, an NAACP Image Award and one Stellar award with nine total nominations for the project. Throughout this time, Brandon Williams remained an in-demand music-industry professional in many capacities but was most famed for his work as a drummer. Williams has toured nationally and internationally gracing the stages of premier venues around the world in addition to gracing studios with his genius from New York to South Africa.
Brandon Williams is a sonic-architect and a front runner in an industry that is rapidly changing to favor artists who are in control of their careers. In 2014, Williams released XII, his first album on his independent label Soulasis Music Group. The full-length project was a sweeping and romantic homage to the “producer’s album” popularized by Quincy Jones who gave his seal of approval to Williams’ debut. The album featured career-defining performances for artists like Alex Isley and Moonchild while calling on the bonafide talents of Jean Baylor (formerly of Zhane) and Robert Glasper.
The accomplishments for Brandon Williams extend past the stage and studio into the realm of television. Williams’ music production can be heard in various television commercials between 2011-2016 for brand and celebrity partnerships with AT&T, Honda, ?uestove (The Roots, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon) and Young Guru (Jay Z, Beyonce). His work can also be heard on Oprah Winfrey’s Greenleaf.
At 39 years old, Brandon Williams has cemented his legacy as a tastemaker with an undeniable track record. In his own words-“While always listening to the whispers of God during the creative process, I’m striving to continue to be among the artists that bring good music back to the forefront of the world’s ear. Real good, feel good, life-altering, soul-healing music is what I’m all about.”
